![]() The half-god, half-giant children of Bor and Bestla were Odin, who became the chief of the Aesir gods, and his two brothers, Vili and Ve. Buri had a son named Bor (“Son”), who married Bestla (perhaps “Wife”), the daughter of the giant Bolthorn (“Baleful Thorn”). Her licks slowly uncovered Buri (“Progenitor”), the first of the Aesir tribe of gods. She nourished Ymir with her milk, and she, in turn, was nourished by salt-licks in the ice. “As the frost continued to melt, a cow, Audhumla (“Abundance of Humming”), emerged from it. Ymir was a hermaphrodite and could reproduce asexually when he slept, more giants leapt forth from his legs and from the sweat of his armpits. Amid the hissing and sputtering, the fire melted the ice, and the drops formed themselves into Ymir (“Screamer”), the first of the godlike but destructive giants. ![]() “Frost from Niflheim and billowing flames from Muspelheim crept toward each other until they met in Ginnungagap. This chaos of perfect silence and darkness lay between the homeland of elemental fire, Muspelheim, and the homeland of elemental ice, Niflheim.” “Before there was soil, or sky, or any green thing, there was only the gaping abyss of Ginnungagap. But here is a short lesson in Norse mythology: But if he didn't make the horse run away in the first place, the giant never would've been found out. People say Loki's disguise & birth were first nothing because the giant dies in the end. Then the gods figure out the giant's true nature when he tries to use his natural abilities to still finish the wall & kill him. With no horse, there's no wall, with no wall, Freya is safe. Turns out horse is super powerful & is the only reason the giant is able to build the wall. Loki did this to fix his mistake because he convinced the gods that the giant wouldn't be able to finish his wall in time, therefore they wouldn't have to honor their agreement to give Freya to said giant. So he's both a father & a mother depending on which offspring you're talking about. Loki transformed into a female horse to distract the Male horse. *Edit because I'm tired of the repeating comments: So at least he wasn't in a humanoid form boning a horse In Loki's defense, he shape-shifted into a horse to distract a powerful horse that belonged to a giant in order to save the gods from selling off Freya & the gods killing him as punishment/revenge. Sometimes infographics can masquerade as how-to guides. If your guide is more of a visual essay than a structured table or list, then chances are that is an infographic. Flow charts and step-by-step guides are considered guides, so are visual references that line up different types of something next to one another other.Īn infographic is more educational in layout and content, finding something specific on an infographic is not as easy because it is designed to inform through more narrative structures. Guides are typically laid out in a grid configuration of some sort or sectioned into multiple tables by a category or step of a process. On top of that not all guides are created equal, many technically qualify as guides, but lack substance. If someone has to visually bop around your guide to find what they are looking for, the guide does not pass the layout test. The layout or structure of a guide must be that so, when someone is trying to find/reference information from the guide, they can do so logically or simply. It takes both content and layout to make something a guide. Guides are reference materials, how-tos, and/or comparison tables.
